The UEFA Champions League isn’t just the pinnacle of club football—it’s also home to the **official UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football**, a free-to-play game that lets fans manage their own dream squad of Europe’s elite players. Whether you’re a casual fan or a fantasy football veteran, this guide walks you through everything you need to know to dominate the 2025/26 season.

## What Is UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football?

The **UEFA Champions League Fantasy** is UEFA’s official fantasy game, available on the [UEFA Gaming website](https://gaming.uefa.com/?ref=blog.nestict.com) and the official Champions League app. The concept is simple:

- Build your own 15-man squad.
- Earn points based on real-life player performances in Champions League matches.
- Compete against friends, colleagues, or fans worldwide.

And the best part? It’s completely free to play.

---

## Key Dates for 2025/26

- **Game Opens:** 21 August 2025 (00:00 CET)
- **Final Deadline:** 31 May 2026 (18:00 CET)

That means you can start building your squad before the group stage begins and adjust it all the way through to the final in May.

---

## Squad Building Rules

Your team must include:

- **15 players total**
  - 2 Goalkeepers
  - 5 Defenders
  - 5 Midfielders
  - 3 Forwards

**Budget:** €100 million (increases to €105 million from the Round of 16 onward).

**Club Player Limits:**

- Group Stage: Maximum 3 players from one club.
- Knockout rounds: This limit increases as the competition progresses, allowing you to load up on players from clubs that advance deep into the tournament.

---

## Matchdays, Transfers, and Substitutions

The game is structured around **matchdays**, which align with the Champions League schedule. Each week of UCL action counts as a matchday, and your team scores based on real performances.

- **Transfers:**
  - You get a limited number of free transfers each matchday.
  - Extra transfers cost -4 points each.
- **Substitutions:**
  - After the first set of matches on a matchday, you can manually bring in bench players if your starters underperform.
  - This allows you to make tactical swaps during the same gameweek.

---

## Special Chips: Wildcard & Limitless

Like other fantasy games, UEFA UCL Fantasy includes two powerful **chips**—but you can only use each once per season.

1. **Wildcard:**
  - Unlimited transfers for one matchday.
  - Your budget still applies.
2. **Limitless:**
  - Unlimited transfers for one matchday.
  - **No budget restrictions**—stack your team with stars without worrying about cost.

Pro tip: Save these for crucial rounds like the Round of 16 or Quarter-finals.

---

## Scoring System

Points are awarded (or deducted) based on real player actions:

- **Goals:** Forwards (4), Midfielders (5), Defenders/Goalkeepers (6).
- **Assists:** +3 points.
- **Clean Sheet:** +4 for Goalkeepers/Defenders (if they play 60+ mins).
- **Saves:** Goalkeepers get +1 point per 3 saves.
- **Penalties:** +3 for scoring, -2 for missing.
- **Cards:** Yellow (-1), Red (-3).

And don’t forget the **captain**—whoever you choose will earn double points. You can even switch your captain between matchdays if your first choice underperforms.

---

## Tips to Win Your League

1. **Watch the Fixtures:** Pick players with favorable match-ups.
2. **Balance Attack & Defense:** Clean sheets and saves matter as much as goals.
3. **Rotate Wisely:** Big clubs may rest stars—monitor team news.
4. **Use Chips Smartly:** Save Wildcard/Limitless for knockout rounds.
5. **Choose Captains Carefully:** Doubling points on the right player can swing your score massively.

---

## Why You Should Play

- You can compete with friends in private leagues.
- It’s completely free with official UEFA prizes often up for grabs.
