Published: 9th September 2025

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, 29th September 2025. This exercise marks a significant step in preparing for the 2027 General Election, ensuring that every eligible Kenyan can exercise their constitutional right to vote.

In line with Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, the Commission is mandated to conduct voter registration and maintain the integrity of the register of voters.

Why This Matters

The CVR exercise is crucial in enabling:

  • Young people who have recently attained the age of 18 years to be included in the voters’ roll.
  • Unregistered citizens to participate in shaping the future of the country through democratic elections.
  • Registered voters to update, correct, or transfer their voter details.

This inclusive approach ensures that no eligible Kenyan is left out of the electoral process.

Preparations by the Commission

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, HSC emphasized that the Commission has already begun implementing preparatory activities to guarantee an efficient, transparent, and inclusive exercise. These include:

  1. Mapping of Registration Centres – Verifying both existing and proposed centres for accessibility.
  2. Stakeholder Engagements – Holding constituency-level forums to promote awareness and encourage participation.
  3. Geospatial Data Consolidation – Gathering constituency, county, and national-level data for better resource planning.
  4. KIEMS Kits Preparation – Configuring and testing the Kenya Integrated Election Management System kits.
  5. Gazettement of Officers – Officially appointing registration officers in compliance with the law.
  6. Training of Registration Personnel – Equipping officers with the skills necessary for effective service delivery.
  7. Packaging and Distribution of Materials – Ensuring timely dispatch of registration tools and resources nationwide.
  8. Data Protection Compliance – Conducting a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) to align with data protection laws.
  9. Voter Education Campaigns – Rolling out awareness programs to engage and inform the public.

Services Available During CVR

According to the Commission, eligible Kenyans can access the following services at any IEBC Constituency Office, except in areas currently hosting by-elections:
